Netgear Arlo Pro

"When we reviewed the Netgear Arlo from Amazon back in 2015, we loved that it was completely wireless, weatherproof, and easy to install, but were disappointed that it lacked any audio capabilities. The new Arlo Pro not only adds two-way audio, it offers sound-triggered recording. Other new features include rechargeable batteries, a base station with a loud siren, and USB connectivity for storing video locally on a USB drive. The camera doesn't come cheap, and requires a hub (the included base station) that connects to your router, but its video quality, flexibility, and integration with other smart home devices earns it our Editors' Choice for outdoor home surveillance cameras."

"The Arlo Pro system...comes with two white cameras, two rechargeable Li-ion batteries, two magnetic mounts and mounting hardware, a base station, an Ethernet cable, a USB power adapter, and a USB charging cable."

"The camera itself looks identical to the original Arlo, only bigger. It measures 3.1 by 1.9 by 2.8 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.8 ounces, compared with the first-gen's 2.5 by 1.6 by 2.8 inches and 4.0 ounces. It has a glossy white housing that meets IP65 waterproof standards, and a strong magnet embedded in its housing that allows you to easily attach it to any metal surface. You can also place it on a shelf or countertop, or purchase a mounting mechanism that you screw in to the back of the camera."

"The camera delivers 1,280-by-720-pixel video and has a 130-degree field of view. It offers digital pan and zoom functionality and uses eight IR LEDs to provide night vision out to 25 feet. It also has a speaker and microphone array for two-way communication and sound detection, as well as a motion detector. The top of the camera has two buttons; the one closest to the front is used for syncing it to the base station, and the one toward the back is used to release the battery compartment. It uses 802.11n Wi-Fi to communicate with the base station and has a range of up to 300 feet."

  • The Arlo Pro uses an Android and iOS app.

  • Each camera has a battery level meter, a Wi-Fi signal meter, an icon that tells you if motion detection is enabled
